Step 1: Intake and history
It starts with your story: developmental milestones, medical history, what you're seeing at home and school. Caregivers complete standardized questionnaires, and with your permission, teachers often do too — multiple perspectives make the picture honest.
Step 2: The evaluation appointment
A licensed clinician interacts with your child through structured, validated activities — play-based for little ones, conversation-based for older kids — observing social communication, play, language, and behavior in a systematic way. Cognitive or developmental measures are added when they'll sharpen the answer. It looks surprisingly like playing; every moment is purposeful.
Step 3: Scoring and integration
The clinician integrates observation scores, questionnaires, history, and any prior records into a diagnostic picture — not just autism-or-not, but the whole developmental landscape including ADHD, anxiety, and language concerns that often co-travel.
Step 4: Feedback and the written report
You meet the clinician for a plain-language walkthrough of results, then receive a comprehensive written report — the document that unlocks insurance-funded ABA and school supports.
