Choosing an ABA Provider: The 12-Question Checklist
Any provider can sound good on the phone. These questions surface the differences that matter.

The twelve questions
Ask every provider you're considering — good ones enjoy answering:
- How many hours per week will a BCBA directly supervise my child's program?
- Who delivers day-to-day sessions, and what training do they receive?
- How is parent training built into the schedule — and how often?
- How do you incorporate my child's assent? What happens when they say no?
- How are goals chosen, and how will my priorities shape them?
- How often will I see my child's data and progress?
- What does a typical session look like at my child's age?
- How do you handle challenging behavior — what's your approach to reinforcement vs. punishment?
- How do you coordinate with schools, SLPs, OTs, and physicians?
- What are your waitlist realities — honestly?
- How do you decide when to reduce hours or graduate a child?
- Who do I call when something isn't working?
Red flags and green flags
Red flags: vague answers about supervision, no parent-training plan, all children getting the same hours, data you never see, and discomfort with assent questions. Green flags: specific supervision numbers, structured caregiver coaching, individualized intensity, open data sharing, and clinicians who light up when you ask hard questions.
At Bridgeway, we built the organization around the answers we'd want as parents — BCBA-supervised programs, parent coaching as a pillar, assent-based practice, and integration with mental health and medical care that standalone ABA shops can't offer. Bring us the whole checklist; we like it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does 'biggest provider' mean 'best provider'?
Size guarantees nothing by itself. Supervision quality, parent training, and clinical culture matter more — ask the twelve questions anywhere you're considering, including Bridgeway.
Should I tour the clinic?
Yes — watch how staff interact with kids, whether children seem engaged and happy, and whether the space feels like somewhere your child could thrive.
