ABA vs. CBT
Behavior-first or thoughts-first? The honest answer: it depends on age, profile, and the problem you're solving.

Two evidence-based traditions
ABA changes behavior by engineering the environment: reinforcement, skill-building, systematic teaching. It shines for autism-related skill development and challenging behavior, and it doesn't require verbal insight — which makes it powerful for young or minimally verbal children.
CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) works through the link between thoughts, feelings, and actions. It's the gold-standard psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, and OCD in children and teens — and it requires enough language and self-reflection to examine one's own thinking, which is why it fits school-age kids and teens best.
When both belong in the plan
An autistic teen with anxiety is the classic case: ABA for skill-building and behavioral supports, CBT (adapted for autistic thinkers) for the anxiety. At Bridgeway both live on one clinical team, so the plans reinforce each other instead of colliding — one of the practical payoffs of integrated care.
